Say What You Mean

My kids. Whew. I guess every parent experiences it. But, man. My kids. Every day they say the same things. Every day they say the same things. Every day. The same things. Every day.

But what gets me more than anything else is that what they say is never what they really mean. But what they say...every day...always means the same thing. Confused yet? Here's a handbook for ya...just in case I ever ask you to pick my children up from school. This way you'll be one up on them. :)
Child 1-Example A:
Dylan says: Mommy, you're gonna be mad at me.
Dylan means: I got a 'S' in conduct and I think you might be upset, so I'll make you feel guilty now so you won't get mad at me later. (Worked for about 4 months until I figured him out.)

Child 2-Example B:
Bryan says: Mommy, I didn't lick any icing on the fence today at school. (What?!)
Bryan means: Since I didn't clean the chain link fence with my tongue today, can I have ice cream when I get home? (Worked for about 2 days until I realized how ridiculous it was to reward this behavior.)

Child 3-Example C:
Lydia says: Bubba (Bryan) hit me.
Lyida means: Bubba looked at me when I told him not to, now I want to try to get him in big trouble. (Worked for who knows how long. But we're onto her sneaky ways now.)

Child 4-Example D:

Elysa says:
Elysa means: How much more of a hint do you need before you give me a clean diaper? (Works every time.)
With translations like this, I think "Godsey" should be added into curriculum as an accredited foreigh language course in high school!
Hey here's another:
Lindsay says: Be sure to enter in our bloggy giveaway!
Lindsay means: Hurry! There's only 6 more days until the giveaway closes and the winner is drawn!

Way-Fewer Words Wednesday

And suddenly I'm beginning to dread the teenage years! And you should, too! Think about it: Lydia. Driving. Aaaaaaahhhhhhhh!

Yep! It's Another Bloggy Giveaway!

I had SO much fun with the last bloggy giveaway we had here at Tales from the Godseysix, that I thought another one was in order! As it turns out, I just so happen to have another very talented and crafty friend who has created a business for herself where she too can work from home while spending lots of quality time with her sweet children. (Where was I when the meeting of the minds was being held. I really wish I'd'a thought of some clever, crafty way to work from home.) Anyhow, back to the giveaway!

My friend, Amy, is the founder and owner of Write Designs by Amy. She makes super cute stationary, note cards, invitations, enclosure cards, stamps, baby bag tags, and...well...just go to her site and you can see the oodles of oh-so-cute products that can each be personalized to your heart's desire.

I got with Amy this week and she is generously allowing me to feature her products in this giveaway! (Thank you, Amy!) This giveaway is really big because you get to pick what you win! Although, I highly recommend the family expressions, the enclosure cards, and the washable labels (which are SO cute and they really do go through the dishwasher like a champ. Elysa's labels have been on her bottles for over a year now!)

So, let me elaborate a little on what's up for grabs:First, the winner of this bloggy giveaway will receive one set of "Bible Verse Variety Pack" note cards . The set comes with 12 notecards and envelopes and are perfect to drop in the mail to send someone a little "hello" or a "thinking of you". (This is my favorite of all her products!)

In addition, the lucky winner will get to choose one "product of choice" up to a $12 value!

So, here's how to get your name in the drawing:

  1. Visit Write Designs by Amy and browse through all of Amy's oh-so-cute products. Then come back here and leave a comment sharing which is your favorite. 1st comment=1 entry.

  2. Sign Amy's guest book! When you do, leave me a second comment to let me know "I signed Amy's guest book" for a second entry.

  3. Wanna really stack the odds in your favor? Mention this giveaway on your blog, on Twitter or on Facebook and leave a third comment letting me know where you mentioned it. 3rd comment=3rd entry!

  4. Hey! Why not have four entries? Become a follower (click "follow" in the column on the right side of my blog-about midway down). I'm loving these bloggy giveaways and might have a few more in the future. I wouldn't want you to miss out and my followers would definitely be in the loop! Don't forget to leave a fourth comment to let me know you are following. Current followers get entries for this, too! (just be sure to leave that comment)

Each comment=one entry in the giveaway. Limit 4 entries per person. And you dont have to be a blogger to win! Just be sure to come back and check to see if you won or leave an email address where you can be contacted should you win!

This giveaway will close on Tuesday, May 5th at 9pm (central time). And the winner will be announced the following Wednesday morning (5/6).

Let the fun begin & Good luck!

Not me! Monday

Well, it's that time again! Time for Not me! Monday, a blog carnival created by MckMama where people all over the world stop hiding their flaws and imperfections. Instead, we embrace those little quirks while still hiding a little bit behind the guise of Not Me!: a sort of therapy, if you will!

As has been for the past few weeks, MckMama is in the hospital with her sweet 5 month old son Stellan who ::fingers crossed:: might be discharged today! With excitement like that going on, odds are she probably will not be participating in Not me! Monday this week. But please feel free to swing by her blog to check on the MckFamily and drop her a line to say 'hello'.

So without further delay, I now bring you the Godseysix edition of Not me! Monday!
This week I had a little issue with my sinuses and although I have never had an allergy problem, I am kinda beginning to wonder if I might not have some of those crazy allergies to stuff like grass, pollen, and nice spring weather. I mean I have near about been miserable all week. But not so miserable that I would go and do something crazy like ask my gynecologist (while she is checking out my nether region), "Hey do you think when you get done with that you could take a look in my ears? They have been really bothering me lately." I mean that might be a little embarassing and I would never intentinally do anything to embarass myself. No, not me!

So! I bet I just lost about half my reading audience after that first thing, huh? Anyhow, here's a few other things that I certainly did not do this week:

We took the kids to Arlington in April (a local little festival) this weekend. It was a lot of fun and I did not let any of my children get burnt to a crisp because I forgot sunscreen. Oh, wait! I already posted about that. So, maybe that did happen. But I do feel terrible! Really I do!

Right as we walked into the Arlington in April festival thing, there was this cage with goats in it. I did not think these baby goats were the cutest little animals and I certainly did not turn to my husband and ask him if he wanted to buy a baby goat! What?! No way did I do that! I have not totally lost my mind!
Let's see. What else happened this week? ::scrolls through pictures:: Ooh! Here's one! I did not take this picture of my kids in 'time out' this week. (If they get caught hitting one another they have to hold hands with the one they were fighting with. You see they are ALL holding hands.) It was not like a mini UFC match when I walked in. I have raised my kids well and they are all little angels. I would never expect to see my children fussing with one another. Nooooo, not me!
I have not pre-arranged a marriage for our youngest daughter to this handsome little stud. Okay. So maybe I'm stretching the limits of Not me! Monday a little with this one. :) I have not prearranged anything. But isn't he just the cutest? And I did not have such a good time with this little man and his family at the Arlington in April thing this weekend.

So, really we did not do much this week. No, really we didn't. But perhaps you did not do even more! If so, or not~okay now I'm just confused~anyhow, I'd like to hear what you did not do this week! Happy Monday to all! :)

Lessons from the Mother of the Year:

Always pack sunscreen lest your infant child might look like mine. Arg!

Proof that even after the fourth child, you will still occasionally forget the little things that matter. (Mommy is so, so, very sorry sweet girl! I love you to teeny-tiny-sunburnt pieces!)

Excuse me for a moment...

I was just getting ready to muster up the energy for a new post when I heard all kinds of crashing noises coming from Lydia's bedroom. (Sigh) So I ask her:

Me: Lyyydddiiiaaaaa, what's all that noise in there?
Lydia: What noise? I didn't hear any noise?

And it's supposed to be nap time! Argh! I think she's gonna be just. like. me. So, if you will excuse me for a moment, I think I'd better go check on the state of the southern-most bedroom of our home. (Aaand again: Sigh.)

Orange you all wondering?

Well, of course we did! Today thousands of "wolverines" (as MckMama commonly refers to her blog readers) showed their support for little Stellan by wearing orange~MckMama's favorite color~and the GodseySix was no exception. Here we are sporting our orange for MckMuffin! You can check out more "orange for Stellan" here.

Not me! Monday

Well, it's that time again! Time for Not me! Monday, a blog carnival created by MckMama where people all over the world stop hiding their flaws and imperfections. Instead, we embrace those little quirks while still hiding a little bit behind the guise of Not Me!: a sort of therapy, if you will!

As has been for the past few weeks, MckMama is in the hospital with her sweet 5 month old son Stellan who is scheduled for heart surgery sometime on Tuesday. Having said that, it goes without saying that she probably will not be participating in Not me! Monday this week. But please feel free to swing by her blog to check on the MckFamily and offer a word of encouragement or support.

And now I bring you this week's edition of Not Me! Monday!

This week was a bit of a strange week, in that I really did not do much. No, Not me! Actually I did do much, but was caught cameraless more than once, and as a result I have very few pics to support this week's edition of Not me! Monday. So I apologize in advance if the reading with no pics gets a little dull. I'll see what I can do to shake things up a bit. (?)

I would never consider skipping an edition of Not me! Monday because I realize that I have no pics to show for my week. No! Not me! In fact, I would never procrastinate until 9pm on a Monday night to post my Not me! Monday. I have never been know to procrastinate. Ever. Nope! Not this momma!

Speaking of people who procrastinate, I was certainly not the only momma who forgot to bring in boo-coos of pictures of her precious little four-year-old for the video slideshow that will be shown at the graduation in four weeks. I am WAY proud of my son and would in no way forget about an opportunity to boast picture after oh-so-adorable picture of my precious preschooler. No, Not I!

Also, this week, we celebrated a special birthday. On Tuesday we visited my best friend, Amanda, and her youngest who was celebrating his 2nd birthday. (Happy Birthday Luke!) I had plenty of notice about the party and did not stop by and pick up his present on the way home from work THAT NIGHT and wrap it on the way to their house. Once again, I tell you, I am not~by any stretch of the imagination~a procrastinator. Not me! No sir-ee!

I am not beginning to believe that I might be a procrastinator. I am not beginning to believe that I might be a procrastinator. I am not beginning to believe that I might be a procrastinator.

Okay here's one where I did NOT procrastinate. On Friday night we went to see CCR live in concert. I did not get any pictures of the concert. Why? Well my sweet husband (love you dear) laughed at me when I pulled the camera out and shoved it into my pocket in a half ditch effort to conceal it. Then he went on to tell me "you know they don't allow flash photography in the casinos." Half defeated, I hid the camera under the seat and continued on inside. Once inside, I was not surrounded by gazillions of flashes during the concert. I did not pout at all. I mean I probably wouldn't have gotten any good pictures anyway. We were only on the FIFTH ROW! But I'm not upset. Not in the least. No, Not me!

(Close eyes and imagine 5 somewhat older men jamming out on stage here. Sorry. Without a picture, it's the best I can do.) :)

I am not about to wrap this bad boy up after only confessing to only four things (that I obviously did not do). No, Not me! Well, seeing as Monday is only a few hours from being over, I will not beg you to join in. This week! But next week, I'm so looking forward to hearing what you might or might not have done. Happy Monday to all!

Double Take

Should I be concerned when I look forward to a check-up appointment because I have plans to convert my wait time into a photo session??? Oh, yes. I planned this. Why else would I have my camera at the doctor's office?

What a sweet girl!

Not me! Monday

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama who is still in the hospital with her 5 month old Stellan and might not be rolling with the Not Me! Monday posts this week. But you can still swing by her blog to check on her and sweet Stellan.

This week I did not carry a HEAVY load of stress with me for much of the week. I did not let that stress get the best of me and call off from work for the last two days of the week because of it. And I certainly did not try to counter the stress by taking the WHOLE family to meet Dylan at school for lunch. That would, in fact, cause more stress so I would not have done that. No! Not me!

David and I had a heart to heart talk with Dylan this week and explained to him that there was no such thing as an Easter bunny. I think the talk went really well considering that the very next day Dylan asked us if it was the night that the Easter bunny was going to come. I did not go out that very night and spend what was left of our grocery money on Easter basket stuff in order to carry on with the whole "Easter bunny" tradition. That would be irresponsible, and irresponsible is certainly not me!

I did not host my very first giveaway this week and I am certainly not so very excited to find out who the winner will be on Wednesday! If you haven't entered yet, you don't still have time! (Which means you do. So go! Enter! Hurry up!)

I do not think this is a great picture of my hubby and the boys from Easter!

And I do not like this picture he took of me and the girls for Easter. Really? No, really. I DON'T! In fact, I can not believe I just posted it to the internet! Ugh!

So, well, that's about all I did not do this week. I'd love to hear what you have not done this week! Don't tell! Don't tell!

Happy Easter!

Last night while I was surfing through blogger-land I ran across this recipe which I found on What are JJJ and B up to? Surprisingly, I had all the ingredients and so, since we decided not to dye eggs, we found ourselves having some Bible time...in the kitchen! Here's the recipe that I copied directly from Jennifer's blog along with pictures of our night.
Resurrection Cookies
1 c whole pecans
1 t vinegar
3 egg whites
pinch salt
1 c sugar

Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Place pecans in a zipper bag and let children beat them with a wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested he was beaten by the Roman soldiers.
Read John 19:1-3
Let each child smell (we let them taste) the vinegar. Put 1 vinegar into mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross he was given vinegar to drink.
Read John 19:28-30.

Add egg whites to vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave His life to give us life.

Read John 10:10-11.

Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let them taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus' followers, and the bitterness of our own sin.

Read Luke 23:27.

Add 1 c sugar. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because He loves us He wants us to know and belong to Him.
Read Ps. 34:8 and John 3:16.

Beat with a mixer on high speed for 12 to 15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. (I couldn't blend for 15 minutes because the children were kinda going crazy, and from this point forward you will see that things didn't go as hoped.) Explain that the color white represents the purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus. Read Isa.1:18 and John 3:1-3
Fold in broken nuts. Drop by teaspoons onto wax paper covered cookie sheet. Explain that each mound (we didn't have "mounds"...we had more like "puddles") represents the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was laid.
Read Matt. 27:57-60.

Put the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door and turn the oven OFF. Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that Jesus' tomb was sealed.
Read Matt. 27:65-66.
GO TO BED! Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight. Jesus' followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed.
Read John 16:20 and 22.

On Easter morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow! On the first Easter Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty. (This is where I won't show you how flat my cookies turned out. But I'm HAPPY to show you how cute my kiddos turned out!) :)
Read Matt. 28:1-9.

HE HAS RISEN! I hope everyone is having a wonderful Easter!

Scrambled Eggs and Easter Suits

Sorry I've been a "slacker" when it comes to updating the blog these past few days. I've had a lot~A LOT~on my mind. I'm a natural worrier so it has come quite easy for me these past few days, but I refuse to harp on my worries here. This blog serves to showcase my children and all their "happenings". So, having said that here's what "happened" today! :)

In the car with Dylan on the way home from getting dinner last night:

Dylan: "Mommy, what does the Easter Bunny eat?"
Me (totally stressed out *see above* and only hearing something about the Easter Bunny): "Eggs"
Dylan: "Really? He doesn't eat carrots like other bunnies?"
Me (with too much on my mind to try to correct my errant answer): "No, dear. He likes scrambled eggs."
Dylan: "Oh! Okay, well, can we leave him some scrambled eggs for when he brings us our Easter baskets?"

So, tomorrow night while all you other "Easter bunnies" out there are eating some sweet easter treats, cookies, or maybe even carrots, remember us. The Mr. and Mrs. Easter bunny at this house will be chowing down on some....{sigh}...scrambled eggs. That's what I get for worrying so much.

"Look at the birds of the air; they did not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?" ~Matt. 6:26-27

In much lighter news, here is a little sneak preview of Bryan in his Easter outfit during a little 'model show' we had today while trying to piece the whole thing (suit) together. :) What a handsome little guy!
in pink
in yellow
in white
I think we've decided already, but just for fun, which is your favorite?
***And if you haven't already, don't forget to post your entries for the giveaway. There's still time! Entries are being accepted until 9pm Tuesday night (4/14)!

It's a Bloggy Giveaway!

So, simply because it felt so great to be on the receiving end of another giveaway, I have decided to host a giveaway of my own!

My friend Becky is not only talented and crafty; I'd like to say she is brilliant! She has created for herself a business where she is able to work from home, earn an income, and spend tons of quality time with her precious little girls all at the same time. (Wish I'd'a thought of something like that.) So I got with Becky over the weekend and she was excited to let me feature her products in my very first giveaway! (Thank you Becky!)

So, what am I giving away? Well, for starters, these 6 beautiful hand-made bows from Ally-bug Bowtique:
Each of these bows were made by Becky using high quality material. Each bow is hand-tied and secured to the clip of your choice (alligator or french~alligator clips are used in the bows shown). The end of every ribbon has been heat sealed to prevent fraying and ensure that the bow will last. These are very nice, quality bows!

But wait! There's more. (Sorry, I just had to say that.) I will also include one specialty bow~winner's choice~along with all of the basic 3" bows shown above. That's a total of 7 BOWS in this giveaway!

So, here's how to get your name in the drawing:

  1. Visit Ally-bug Bowtique and check out all of Becky's oh-so-cute bows. Then come back here and leave a comment sharing which of her specialty bows is your favorite. 1st comment=1 entry.
  2. Sign Becky's guest book (maybe even tell her I sent ya)! When you do, leave me a second comment to let me know "I left Becky a comment" for a second entry.
  3. Wanna really stack the odds in your favor? Mention this giveaway in your blog or on Facebook and leave a third comment letting me know where you mentioned it. 3rd comment=3rd entry!

So let the fun begin! This giveaway will close on Tuesday, April 14th at 9pm (central time). And the winner will be announced the following Wednesday morning (4/15). Good luck!

". . . . ."

If you could read my mind, that (title) is what it might look like. I'm stumped. Not really much to say, but I couldn't go all weekend without any updates.

Monday's are usually, well at least recently, reserved for "Not Me! Monday" posts, however, since I have not heard from anyone and I am not sure what MckMama is doing, I will not be posting one this week. I don't know~just seems kinda wrong to continue on when the founder of "Not Me! Monday" is in the hospital with her baby boy who is truly fighting for his life. So, perhaps next week, depending on the circumstances and how everyone else (all the other people who do nothing on a weekly basis along with me) goes about it.

In other news, I WON A GIVEAWAY THIS WEEKEND! How exciting is that?! I feel like I won the lottery! I entered a giveaway over at Why Rinse Chicken and woke up Saturday morning to find out I had actually won! (Thanks again Sara!) SO. EXCITING. Exciting enough, in fact, that I have decided to host a giveaway of my very own! Check in over the next few days...you won't wanna miss it! (Okay, okay. So it's more like I don't want you to miss it!) I'm not exactly sure which day it will be up and running, but I am hoping the first part of the week. So do come back and play along!

Ummm...what else? We had some pretty awesome weather this weekend! Which was perfect, because a certain little lady woke up on Saturday morning with a new interest in a certain sport.
Isn't that the cutest thing you have ever seen? She really looks excited about that ball! (And she only carried it around with her for the first three hours of the day on Saturday.) So, we all headed out for a friendly game of 4-on-1 basketball!

Look at 'em all! You got 2 wide open at the top of the key, Elysa is boxing Daddy out for the rebound and Dylan is about to take it to the hoop! So next time someone tells me "Whoa! You guys have a basketball team!" I'll be able to say, "Why, yes we do!" :)

Happy Monday to you all! Hope everyone has a great week!

I Scream for Ice Cream

while Dylan screams for a little more room!
