Not me! Monday

I'm back, it's Monday, and it wasn't me! Welcome once again to the Godseysix edition of Not me! Monday. A blog carnival created and hosted by MckMama, where fellow bloggers from computers around the world deny doing things that they did during the week. A sort of confession-type therapy, only we're not really confessing are we? Well you might be, but I'm not. Nope, not me!
This week I did not get my entire family ready for church only to head out the door and see that we were already 30 minutes late for service! I am a very organized and prompt mommy. I would never let my family be late for church. No, not me!

And I did not decide to skip church altogether at the thought of walking in 45 minutes late. I did not. And I did not, instead, take them to the park and attempt to get some cutesy pictures of them in their Sunday clothes. Not me!
I would never attempt something like that, because I know how incredibly hard it is to get a good picture of 4 little kiddos and I would not stress out on a beautiful Sunday morning in order to attempt to get said picture. Nope. Not me!
And I did not stress out. My youngest son did not pout the whole time. He did not refuse to cooperate. He did not demand lunch. And I did not say to him "Do you want to eat today? Then pretend to be happy for the picture!" loud enough for a passing jogger to hear. How embarassing! Noooo. I would never. Not me!
I did not make my cute and well dressed kiddies sit in the mud for a picture. I did not make them hold hands. And I did not lay them in the grass and then make them get up and move to another patch of grass where there was no dog poo. Ewww and not me!
And I did not concede my efforts to accept a picture of my kids backsides as the "keeper of the day". No :sigh: not me.

Oh, to get a decent picture

Hey guys, it's been a while since mommy has taken a picture with all of you in it. Do you think you could sit here on this step and let mommy get just one good picture? You ready?
Well, that was okay, but do you think that this time, Dylan, you could give me just a little smile? Please? Okay. Here goes.
Oh, well, honey, that wasn't quite what I had in mind. Perhaps this time you could just give me a natural little smile and Bryan, you and Lydia should look at the camera next time, okay? Okay. Here we go:

Okay, um, sissy, can you sit back down please? Bryan, Lydia, just ignore what mommy told you and smile pretty, okay? Sissy? Sissy? Elysa? Sweetie, can you please come back for another picture? Just one more? Okay. Maybe not.
Listen guys.
::sweatingandpanting::
Mommy really only wants one simple, sweet picture. Just one.

I've got icecream!!! And there you have it: proof that bribery really works. Kinda.
Happy Monday!!

Life: In 2 inch details.

Life is really
so short.
Short like Elysa
who is about
2 inches shy
of causing trouble
of her own.

But short nonetheless.
This weekend
we celebrated
my best friend's
firstborn son's birthday.
He is 5.
And at his party
I realized
just how much
free time
I had on my hands.
Mainly because
my youngest daughter
entertained herself.
For the most part.
She was only about
2 inches short
of complete independence.

And it was all
so sweet
as I was
able to mingle
with my friends
at the same time.
But still
I realized
that I am about
2 inches away
from closing
another chapter
in my life book.

Before long
those little feet
will be
touching the floor
in the cafeteria
of some school.
And all
of my babies
will be just
2 inches closer
to total
independence.
And I honestly
don't know
how
I will handle
that.

The Me Box

Well, it's official. School is back and in full swing! Tonight we completed our first "big" homework assignment which was a "Me Box" for Dylan. It's a semi-decorated box that contains items that are important to him. He has to stand in front of the class and show each item and tell why it is important to him. And I must say, I was humbled by some of his choices for his "Me Box".

First, here's a look at the box itself.
And here are the contents of his "Me Box" and his presentation as he practiced it tonight. I am so proud of him. Keep in mind, these are his choices and his explanations. (And I couldn't be more proud of him!)

"I have a picture of my family in my box because I have 2 sisters and a brother and I love my family very much. They are important to me."

"I have my Bible in my box because the Bible is Jesus' words. And Jesus loves me and I love Him. And my Bible is important to me."
"I have a Mickey Mouse in my box because this summer after I graduate from second grade, my family is going to Disney World and that is important to me."
"I have my Mario Brothers game in my box, because I play Mario Brothers every day. It is my favorite game and it is important to me."

"I have a calendar of September because that is when my birthday is and I like getting presents on my birthday so it is important to me."

A new Godsey fave

We have a new favorite restaraunt! We have been two days in a row now. And for any of my local readers who have not tried it, you have got to make your way to Mama Mia's Pizzeria! One word: Delicious!
We first went last night because we had a half off coupon and we thought, "why not". And I must say it was the best pizza I think I have ever tasted.

So today, while Dylan was in school, we went back to let the kids "make their own pizza" (something we did not do last night, because we were using the coupon.) :)

Anyhow, here are the pics from today's visit.

First Day of School

So today was the first day, and I am very pleased to announce that both boys each had a wonderful first day! I was so worried about Dylan fitting in with the other kids that I was barely able to cry a single tear about my Bryan starting school today. But at the end of the day, they both came home with fun stories and fond memories of their first day. And I sighed a huge sigh of relief and said a little thank you prayer.

It's just so hard to believe that these boys:left the house this morning looking like this:

It was all sorta bitter-sweet. Sweet in that there were waaayyy fewer fights to break up, fewer disputes to resolve, fewer game boys to take away, and fewer time outs to enforce. But it was bitter in that the minute we (David, myself and the girls) stepped foot back in the house...without those boys...it was so different. Quiet. Lonely. We had no clue what to do or where to begin.

But we did lots of fun things like lick all the cheese off all of the Doritos in the bag.
And we washed our hands. A lot.
And...uh...we read some books. (And I wondered if Lydia selected book titles to try to tell me how she felt about the boys being in school.)
Probably not. She was really happy to see them when they got back home. And so was I!
